Is St. Pete Really Haunted?

Is St. Pete Really Haunted?

If you ask us, we would say, “Yes, most certainly.”

You might say this has to do with the fact that we run a ghost tour business or the fact that we live in a 100+ year old house in Historic Uptown (shameless neighborhood plug). But truthfully, it has to do with the stories behind the city and the fact that this city is FILLED with good, old-fashioned ghost stories. Additionally, St. Pete is rich in history.

Is St. Pete Haunted?

Do a quick Google search and you will see everything from pirate to poltergeists and everything in between. Sure, a few stories here and there do not a haunted town make. Even factual historical events don’t constitute a location for the afterlife or similar strange happenings, but have you ever really read the stories? I mean, really read them?

The basis for a good portion of our tour comes from current, actual experiences of people currently residing in the area. But if you look at the some of the stories and review the timeline of this city, you will see that there have been strange happenings in this quaint little waterfront town since the beginning.

Homes, hotels and hostels are just a few of the places that claim to have seen its fair share of ghosts and supernatural beings. Have you heard that St. Pete got its name from a coin toss? Speaking of coins, did you know that a lot of our military got drafted in a ritual involving a drink and a coin? Have you read about the legend of St. Marys? There is no much more it would take 10 blogs, maybe even a book, to cover them all.

The point of this blog post is not to highlight things you can read online but top open your eyes to the possibility that these things can exist… and they quite possibly do in your own backyard.
